What phone should you buy

What phone should you buy?
This past week saw some new devices released.  We had the Apple event on Tuesday.  Later in the week we had the Samsung Note 8 released.  Now users will have the chance to choose where to give their hard earned money.  First, let me say this.  Most consumers don’t need the latest device.  If you have an older model phone that is working great then there really isn’t a need to go to another store and upgrade.  Next, if you own a phone and battery life is weak and it's slowing down.  You still have the option to get the previous year's model for a steep savings.  This is my honest recommendation.  The main reason I upgraded to the iPhone 7 plus was because of the Product (Red) option.  I also needed to upgrade because my iPhone 6 Plus suffered from touch disease and became unusable.  The iPhone 7 is a solid device and so isn’t the Samsung Galaxy s7.  Please don’t buy an Old Galaxy Note though some were re-released, but I don’t trust them.

What would I buy
If I was upgrading now and money wasn’t involved I would go with iPhone 8 plus mainly because it is the device we know and understand.  The Android device I would purchase would be the Galaxy Note 8.  I really like the Stylus on the Note line and believe that Samsung has perfected the “phablet”.  Another benefit to the Samsung Galaxy phones is the expandable storage.
Storage
One of the biggest mistakes made is Apple ditching the 128 gb version of the phone.  I feel this is a huge issue as I find the 128 to be the sweet spot.  Plenty of storage and worth the extra money.  A 64 gb iPhone would be fine if you could expand the storage, but with iPhones you can’t, so having more versions is important.  One of the other issues with the new iPhone is that there is a 64 gb base model and no 128 gb model.

iPhone X
I didn’t mention the iPhone X in the previous paragraph because its on different level. The iPhone X is really a first generation device.  Upgrading to this phone won’t be for the faint of heart.  There are going to be issues with facial recognition and with no bezel I am imagining many screen replacements. The  iPhone X also starts at $999.00 (49.91/month).  The  256 gb model which would be the phone I would buy would cost $1149.00.  Sorry, but you can get a iPhone 8 and iPad for the cost of the iPhone X.

Conclusion
Obviously this is a big choice.  There are other technical areas we could discuss, but it can get confusion.  What you need to know is to avoid the iPhone X this year.  Let us, the techies figure out what is wrong with the phone.  Today you can’t go wrong with a Samsung Galaxy phone or an iPhone 8.  Remember though, there is nothing wrong with saving some cash and getting the previous model.  You won’t be missing much and you will have more money to spend on other things.

Technology and Jobs

More people are becoming increasingly concerned about jobs.  As technology advances at the sonic speeds more entry-level jobs are going to be replaced.  This is a fact.  We can't slow it down if we want to see cheaper goods and services.  Companies also need to stay competitive.  Look at the recent deal between Microsoft and Walmart as both behemoths battle Amazon Another factor with this is growing wages.  As more states implement higher minimum wage laws companies are seeing more ROI on Kiosks and self-checkout registers.  Amazon has introduced a convenience store model that doesn't have cash registers at all.  You just download an app and you can go through the store and items get added or removed based on what you pick up. and put down.  More and more jobs are going to be automated.  Tesla is working on self driving tractor trailer trucks.   Amazing technology, but humans need to adapt.  Even in IT we...

New Focus!!

Posts were very few over the last two years. While quite a bit has happened it was hard to focus on much other than my full time job. I really have started to focus on security and helping you secure your home networks is what we are going to focus on in the coming months. There is a lot to talk about and tools you can use to ensure your data is safe. Items such as using a password manager and enabling Multi-Factor Authentication for your logins can ensure that your data is safe. Nothing is perfect, but taking steps can minimize your risk of having your information stolen. Not only will discuss these topics, but we will show you how to do some of them. Let me know some home network security topics you're interested in and we will add them to the list.
