To continue the theme on security there is one last piece I didn't mention in my security post. Updates! Windows updates as well as you everyday software updates. As we know with the Equifax data breach a security update that isn't applied is all the bad guys need. There is a difference between businesses and home though. In a business we need to test updates before deploying them to ensure something doesn't break. At home it is vital to not wait an update your computer. When I say test I mean quick test we run them through and with a couple weeks of the update being released it is generally allowed out. At home you should be connecting to a server at the office securely and working. You shouldn't be off the work network when working.
Windows 7 I feel is a little more awkward. You will get the annoying pop up that asks to restart, but this is only if Windows has successfully installed updates.
No matter what the key is to make sure automatic updates are enabled. This will allow Windows to update your Operating System at all times. If you would like me to show you how to do this leave a message for me on my Facebook page and I will either send you instructions or we can set a time for me to connect to your computer and check!
I know this all seems daunting and scary, but it really isn't. Windows will auto update as long as you restart your computer. The other software on your computer should prompt you to update. You devices will prompt you as well. It is up to you to say "YES"! and do the updates.
I will be posting later about the topics coming up this week. I hope you continue to come hear and you find the content useful.

Windows updates
I feel these are critical. If you are running Windows 10 the process tends to be smooth. Windows 10 in my opinion, does the best job of staying up to date. Automatic updates actually are automatic and will update when you restart or shutdown your computer.Windows 7 I feel is a little more awkward. You will get the annoying pop up that asks to restart, but this is only if Windows has successfully installed updates.

I need to update Adobe Reader!!
Yup! Adobe products and other software need to be updated regularly as well. Adobe will send you a notification to update the product. Java will as well. Flash should be set to automatically update. Or even better use Chrome and it is updated within the browser and you don't need to worry about it! Generally, software will prompt you to update your software when you run them and you just need to click okay.
Devices
Please keep your tablets and phones up to date as well. I know it can be frustrating, but these devices can be hacked and then your data could be compromised.
